Vallenato is a traditional Colombian music characterised by the accordion, Caja drum, Guacharaca, and Gaita flute.
It’s originated from the North East of the country and is the music of the lower classes and farmers. You can notice a strong European influence in this music which includes now the guitar.
The Vallenato pop is the modern evolution of the genre and Carlos Vives is leading the wave followed by Fonseca.
We discovered this great music in 2004 whilst living in a hostel in London thanks a very nice guy from this country, since then all our parties play a bit of Vallenato pop.
