Our little trip to the Greek cyclades island (see article below) was ending up in Athens where Mr Shakira decided to go for three nights of crazy salsa dancing also we discovered some great places to go if you like to dance.

We arrived on the Friday end found the most traditional salsa place ‘Palenque’ club.

41 Farandaton street, Agios Thomas Square, Ampelokipi.

They play great Cuban Salsa, Merengue and Reggaeton. There was a lovely concert on that night.

Be aware they clubbing in Athens is more expensive than then the average place in London expect to pay £13 including a drink) to get in and £8 for the cocktails.

Dressing up is very important for the Greek so to be sure to get in, we advice to make some effort…smart shoes and stylish clothes….

On the Saturday we went to Enzzo de Cuba in Bournazzi

72 – 74 Agias Paraskevis str., Bournazi.

The DJ was excellent, his mix was impeccable blending Salsa, Merengue, Batchata, Cha Cha Cha, Baile Funk, Samba. He even played some Cumbia at 5am. They have 3 rooms latin, greek and lounge.

Our Sunday night was spent in Gazi where we danced to all latin music in a bar called Social Bar it was free and there was a few dance performances. The dancefloor was a bit small whilst there was a nice atmosphere.

We heard a lot of good things about the little bar called Fuego which hold a good Salsa pura night on Sunday too. We were too tired to check it out…

Fuego Omírou 69.

Finally, avoid Cubanita in Psiri as their bouncers where very rude and they operate entry on guestlist only which is contrary to the spirit of salsa.

In terms of Salsa dancing, Salsa is still a new trendy thing in Greece so while people have the rhythm in their blood the level is still relatively far from the top cities like London or Paris, but it still great fun and funky, we will go back, defo!!!!
